Our Philosophy

Here at Lenah Valley Childcare and Early Learning our centre philosophy is based on the values and belief of our educators and families. We are a very diverse centre with many cultures represented within our service through our educators and families.

These values and beliefs underpin our daily practices as we engage in respectful and nurturing relationships with children, families, and our peers. The basis of a respectful and nurturing relationship we believe is open communication where all voices are heard and respected allowing us to provide a holistic approach to children’s learning.

Within our early learning environments, we aim to provide a space for children to explore and challenge their own individual interests and abilities with confidence while providing the scaffolding of safety and support. We encourage children to have a voice in all aspects of their daily routine to ensure we are being respectful to all children’s individual needs.

When implementing our experiences for the children we aim to provide these through play-based learning. play based learning benefits children’s development through allowing them to discover their own limitations as they explore and investigate their own interests, while also developing their social interactions with educators and their peers.

We believe that nature is a wonderful natural learning environment and playground for children to develop an understand and respect for the world around them. We endeavour to actively utilise the natural surroundings of our service while embedding these practices for all age groups through regular excursions to the natural reserves, while also providing natural resource within our learning environments. When we utilise the natural reserves and resources, we aim to teach children about the traditional landowners The Palawa people to show respect for those who came before us and their traditions.

Along with recognising and embracing the traditional landowners of our centre we endeavour as a service to embed cultural awareness within our everyday practices. We aim to provide our educators with training and resource that will provide them the knowledge to educate the children through cultural play-based experiences.

As we implement our values and beliefs through the experiences and learning environments we provide, our aim is to be inclusive and active members of our community. Our vision for the centre is to provide consistent high-quality care for our children and families.

Our educators believe in respecting and honouring each family’s values, beliefs, histories, cultures, languages, traditions, child-rearing practices and lifestyle choices. We will take pride in our heritage by acknowledging our Traditional Land Owners in our curriculum, and integrating cultural awareness into art and learning experiences. We will endeavour to form positive partnerships and networks with indigenous people in our local community to guide us in nurturing the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander legacy.

We believe in equality and equity for all children which will enhance all children’s capacities to succeed, regardless of diverse circumstances and abilities and we promote inclusion and participation of all children at our service.

We believe that by following our philosophy we are helping to guide children into becoming confident, creative, environmentally responsible and active members of future society, contributing to a brighter future for all Australians.

We have a professional team of Educators who continually seek ways to build their professional knowledge and work together within the wider child care and education industries to develop a learning community. Our Educators are all involved in an on-going cycle of critical reflection of philosophy, ethics and practice. This allows us to examine what is happening in our service and reflect on what we are doing well and what we might change to achieve the best possible outcomes for children, families and educators.

We will ensure the governance of the Centre embraces the appropriate decision making people from the Service Provider, Nominated Supervisor, Educators and all stakeholders including families so that the stewardship for overall compliance of the centres’ philosophy and duty of care is undertaken in a professional manner.
